D. Narayana, Vice president

    

D. Narayana is a renowned economist, researcher and statistician. He holds a PhD from Indian Statistical Institute (ISI). He was a Fullbright Fellow at the Harvard Centre for Population and Development Studies, USA. Prior to joining GIFT, D.Narayana has been the Technical Advisor to the Kerala State Planning Board. As Technical Advisor to the Board, he has immensely contributed to the drafting of the Memorandum to the Fourteenth Finance Commission, finalizing the Kerala Perspective Plan 2030, drafting the Economic Review 2015. D. Narayana served as the RBI Chair Professor at the Centre for Development Studies (CDS) during 2001-12 and as faculty at the CDS since 1980. During his tenure as Director of GIFT from March 2012 to September 2013, he had initiated many academic and developmental activities which included construction of the new campus at Chavadimukku, institutional collaboration and affiliation initiatives with ICSSR, Central University of Kerala and various National Law Universities.D Narayana served as consultant to International Labour Organisation (ILO), Geneva (2003-04), and Asian Development Bank (ADB), Manila (2002) on different subjects related to Kerala. He was the technical advisor to the Selection Committee in the Award category, ‘Health, Environment and Development’, Fourth Annual GDN Conference held at Cairo in 2003. He also served as member of many important committees including the Expert Committee on Goods and Services Tax (GST), Committee for revising the rates for the medical procedures under the centrally sponsored Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY), constituted by the Government of Kerala.D Narayana has published about 50 articles in reputed national and international journals on health, state finance, decentralization, issues of SC/ST Communities, agriculture, irrigation, and migrant labour. The journals where he had publications include Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health, Indian Journal of Human Development, BMC International Health and Human Rights, Journal of Development Studies, Development in Practice, International Journal for Equity in Health, Economic and Political Weekly, Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, Journal of Human Development, International Journal of Health Planning and Management, Indian Journal of Agricultural Economics, Review of Development and Change and Indian Journal of Rubber Research. He has authored and co- edited many Books and Monographs. His latest book, Shaping India: Economic Change in Historical Perspective was published by Routledge, New Delhi.
