About 60 ISLE

The Indian Society of Labour Economics (ISLE) organized its 60th Annual Conference in Mumbai during 19-21 December 2018. This Conference commemorated the Diamond Jubilee year of the formation of ISLE which was organized by the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai. Professor Kaushik Basu, C Marks Professor, Cornell University and former Chief Economist and Senior Vice President, The World Bank, was the Conference President. Dr. C. Veeramani, Professor, IGIDR and Mr. Jai Mohan Pandit, Registrar, IGIDR were the Co-Organising Secretaries of the conference.

A Large number of distinguished economists, other social scientists, trade union leaders, representatives from industry and international organizations, policy makers and other interested professionals and individuals/organizations from across the country and several from abroad are expected to attend the Conference.

The Programme of the conference included the oral presentations of about 200 selected papers, some poster presentations as well as several high level lectures and special panel discussions.

The Indian Society of Labour Economics, founded in 1957 by late Shri V.V. Giri (the veteran trade unionist and former President of India) who was its Life President and some other well known public personalities and academicians, is a leading professional body of economists, other social scientists and practitioners interested in promoting and disseminating scientific studies of labour, employment and development and development issues. Till date, the Society has organised 59 annual conferences to pursue its agenda of research and information dissemination.
